You might think that butterfly valves are only used for controlling water. In fact, they have long been employed in various "hellish environments".
Rocket engine: In the liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propellant pipelines, the temperature drops as low as -253℃. Ordinary rubber and plastic would freeze and break. The specially designed butterfly valves here use special alloys and lip-shaped metal seals, which can still rotate flexibly even in extremely cold conditions.
Nuclear power plant steam system: In the face of hundreds of degrees of supercritical steam and radiation, the three-sealed full-metal butterfly valve serves as a safety barrier.
Seawater desalination plant: Seawater is extremely corrosive. Ordinary iron valves will rust through within just a few days. Engineers have equipped the butterfly valves with "duplex stainless steel" or even "titanium alloy" armor, combined with the rubber lining process, enabling them to remain submerged in seawater for decades continuously.
